Donating gifts to The Friends of the Manx
Diabetes Centre How to give a specific sum of money,
a residual legacy, What one must keep in mind is that in the Isle of Man there is tax relief for charitable donations, for Manx purposes. Individuals can make payments to charities by Deed of Covenant, or simply by making a payment to a registered charity. Relief is also available to a company as provided in Section 61 D of the Income Tax Act of 1970. We shall be discussing tax relief for charitable donations with Mr Roger Barrs, the senior partner of Messrs Howarth Clark Whitehill the accountants of the Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre. A comprehensive account appears in the 2nd issue of “The Diabetic” of September 2003. The Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre, recommend that you consult your Advocate when deciding to make a Will or when amending your present will. Here are some suggestions for the wording on the different ways that monies can be donated to the Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre. If you are making a donation of a specific sum of money: - I give to the Friends of the Manx Diabetes group (Charity Registration No 894) the sum of £………. absolutely for the charitable purposes in accordance with their objectives as contained in their Constitution. I declare and direct that a receipt from the properly elected Treasurer of the Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre at the time of the donation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors for this my legacy. If you are making a donation through a residuary Legacy: - I give the residue (or a percentage of the residue) of my Estate to the Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre (Charity registration No 894) absolutely for the charitable purposes in accordance with their objectives as contained in their Constitution. I declare and direct that a receipt from the properly elected Treasurer of the Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre at the time of the donation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors for this my legacy. Changing of a Will via a “Codicil”: - If you wish you can change your Will. However you can add to your existing Will via what is termed a “Codicil”. This is in fact a separate legal document that your advocate will keep with your Will. This method will obviate you having to make a new will. Sample: - I give to the Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre of 39 Cronk Drean, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1M2 6AU (Charity registration No.894) the sum of £...................... absolutely for the charitable purposes in accordance with their objectives as contained in their Constitution. I declare that a receipt from the properly elected Treasurer of the Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre at the time of the donation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors for this legacy. In all other respects I confirm my said Will. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand Signed by (signature of person making the “Codicil”.

Alternatively all you have to do is send us donations at your discretion and we shall issue you with an official receipt for your records signed by the Treasurer of the Friends of the Manx Diabetes Centre. Common sense dictates that the benefits of all donations
are obvious for the more funds available to the Friends of the Manx
Diabetes Centre the more equipment and help to our medical carers that
the Group can provide. |
